We are currently living in a global pandemic and health has become a top priority in every country. This is why all efforts are targeted to eliminate the virus and its negative consequences.
Cancer, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, drug abuse, anxiety, depression and obesity are other problems that need to be addressed with the same level of investment and scientific effort.
Deaths by cause (Nº deaths).
Cardiovascular diseases, cancer and respiratory diseases are the main causes of death in the world, leading to almost 30 million deaths per year. However, other causes that have a low percentage, like terrorism or natural disasters, are the ones that frequently capture the media’s attention.
Deaths by risk factor. (Nº deaths).
Smoking, sugar, pollution, alcohol and obesity are some of the main risk factors in the world. Most of them are directly related to our socioeconomic dependencies, our lifestyle and out eating habits.
Healthcare quality index. (Index from 0 “worst” to 100 “best”.)
The healthcare access and quality index create a score based on the measure of 32 causes of death that could be avoided by timely and effective medical care. Despite the index value is growing, there are still a lot of challenges in terms of the inequality of the index by country.
Deaths attributed to obesity (% from total deaths).
Obesity is one of the hidden epidemics in the world. The obesity death rate is constantly growing, and today, 8.4% of deaths are attributed to obesity. In the United States the trend is even higher, where obesity accounts for 14.3% of deaths.
